Back pain is the single most common complaint we see, and in the vast majority of cases it is mechanical — meaning it comes from how the spine is loaded rather than from a serious disease.

The first mistake patients make is complete bed rest. Beyond the first 48 hours, lying still stiffens the joints and weakens the muscles that protect the spine. Gentle, frequent movement is far more effective.

Start with pelvic tilts, knee-to-chest holds and short walks around the house. Apply a warm pack for fifteen minutes before exercising. Stop any movement that sends pain down the leg.

See a physiotherapist if the pain lasts more than two weeks, wakes you at night, or comes with numbness, weakness or bladder changes. Those are signs that the nerve is involved and needs assessment.
